Install VMWare Tools on CentOS 6.5

This article briefly describes the process of installing the VMWare tools on CentOS 6.5. Note that you need access (or someone does) to the VMWare portal to complete the initial steps. VMWare (for whatever reason) don’t allow downloads of the RPM’s.

First make the RPM’s available to the guests.

1. Right click on the guest within VMware-tools, and
2. Select "install/upgrade VMware tools" from the "Guest" menu.

At this point, the guest can see an ISO in “/mnt”. We need to mount it and install from there.

mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom
rpm -Uhv /mnt/cdrom/VMwareTools--.rpm
umount /dev/cdrom

At this point you should have VMWare Tools installed.
